Phillips Seabrook Associates has been named Inspector of Record for several new public safety facilities for the City of San Rafael, including a new Public Safety Center and two new fire stations. Construction cost for the facilities totals about $50 million.
The new facilities are funded by Measure E, a sales tax increase overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2013 to address the aging of the City’s essential facilities.
Mary McGrath Architects is the Project Architect for the two fire stations, including Fire Station 52 at 210 Third Street and Fire Station 57 at 3530 Civic Center Drive. Construction of the fire stations is underway.
The project architects for the new Public Safety Center, located at 1375 5th Avenue, are Mary McGrath Architects and Glass Architects, working in collaboration. Kitchell CEM is in charge of Project and Construction Management for all the facilities.
The new 44,000 sq. ft. Public Safety Center will house the police department, the city’s emergency operations, fire administrative operations, and Fire Station 51, now located across the street. Construction begins in the spring of 2018. The Center’s design will be integrated with the city’s existing traditional infrastructure, while offering a contemporary vibe. It is being built to LEED Gold Certification.
Phillips Seabrook has recently provided services for several other public safety facilities in Northern California, including Fire Station 64 for the City of Novato, the Central Marin Police Authority building in Larkspur, and the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility in McKinleyville.
