Phillips Seabrook will provide pro bono building plan review and building inspection for Veterans Village at the County, a development of 14 tiny homes for homeless veterans being built on the Sonoma County administrative campus. The ground breaking for the project was August 28th

Philips Seabrook volunteered to provide services for the project because of its longtime interest in veteran’s issues. “As a former Marine, veteran’s issues are personal to me,” said Daryl Phillips, Principal. “If our company can be a part of providing housing for our homeless veterans, we want to support that goal.” It is estimated that there are some 400 homeless veterans in Sonoma County.

The tiny homes each measure 288 square feet and will be constructed at 665 Russell Avenue on the county government’s administrative campus. The architect is Fritz Architecture-Urbanism, Sebastopol.

The homes are well designed on the interior and are 100 percent accessible for the disabled. The tiny homes can be picked up off their foundations and moved. They come with a built-in bed, dresser, desks and shelves, along with a fully accessible bathroom and a small kitchen.

The homes are being developed by the nonprofit Community Housing Sonoma County, with a $1.8 million loan approved by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. The general contractor is Wolff Contracting.

It is anticipated the homes will be constructed as zero net energy residences, with each tiny house being energy efficient and having solar panels. The tenants in the village will be supported as they transition into an energy conserving lifestyle and will be able to receive feedback on efficiency of energy use.
