| Phillips Seabrook will provide plan review and building inspection for the $30 million rehabilitation of the Presidio Theatre, a historic movie theatre built by the Works Progress Administration in the Presidio of San Francisco in 1938. The Presidio Theatre, LLC in partnership with the Presidio Trust, will repurpose the structure, which is located at 99 Moraga Avenue, into a 10,896 sq. ft. performing arts venue. The Presidio Trust is an innovative federal agency created to save the Presidio and transform it into a new kind of national park. The 650-seat theatre is being rehabilitated as a high quality multipurpose space for live theatre, film, dance, music, lectures, educational programs and special events. The repurposing, which began in 2017, is expected to be completed in mid-2019. The state-of-the-art theatre will reflect its original 1939 Spanish Colonial Revival exterior design, with a functionally expanded stage, new accessible seating, and code compliant restrooms. |
| During the repurposing, a new basement space will be constructed under the main floor to serve as a back-of-house function, with restrooms, dressing rooms, a rehearsal room, and space for technical support and storage. Two new pavilions will be built to the west of the theater. The Architect is Hornberger + Worstell; the General Contractor is Plant Construction Company; the Structural Engineer is Forell/Elsesser Engineers. Phillips Seabrook has provided plan review for a number of projects at the Presidio, including Inn at the Presidio, Lucasfilm, Disney Corp, Presidio Visitor Center, and the World War II and Korean War Memorials. |
